Viral diseases represent the highest-risk category in aquaculture. White spot disease, iridovirus, Taura syndrome and similar infections, once they break out widely, often cause irreversible losses in a short time. Unlike bacterial disease, there is currently no specific cure for viral infections — so the approach must center on prevention, with early intervention as backup.

Early identification is the first line of defense. Limb tremors, abnormal molting, unusual redness or spotting in shrimp, and tremor disease or milky disease in crab are all common early signals of viral infection. Farmers should build a habit of regular pond inspection, and the moment group-level abnormal behavior appears, isolate and investigate immediately rather than waiting until mass mortality forces attention.

The core of routine prevention is boosting non-specific immunity. Herbal extract products (containing honeysuckle, coptis, licorice and similar traditional ingredients) can't directly kill viruses, but by inhibiting virus-replication enzyme activity and rapidly activating the immune system, they help shrimp and crab build stronger natural defenses — currently one of the more established and safe approaches to viral disease control.

Water disinfection is also an essential link in the prevention chain. Regularly applying an iodine-based disinfectant lowers the overall pathogen load in the water and reduces cross-infection risk — this is especially critical during pond disinfection before stocking, the single most important window for cutting off the transmission chain.
